    Poor Gap Consistency

Published by Andrew on 6th Feb 2015

I have bought a few packs of these for hoppers, but always find the gap to be very inconsistent from hook to hook. The size of the gap compared to the length of the shank is small, and from the bulk of most hopper patterns results and missed hook-ups. I prefer to use these for larger nymphs like crane-flies and stones.

Update: 5/19/15 Hi Andrew, we have made several updates to this hook. I'd like to send you new hooks to try out. Please contact me at and we'll take are of you. Thank you - Justin

    Cool hook

Published by Davis on 26th Jan 2015

This is really a cool hook to tie some great looking stonefly nymphs and hoppers on. It is sharp! At first I was a little concerned because it has a bit more flex than the standard shaped nymph hooks. All in all it should be plenty strong enough, I will be testing it this spring on some steelhead.

    Nymph Tying The Easy Way

Published by Jeff on 29th Nov 2014

The Allen N201 Curved Nymph hook has a great style and shape for tying all sorts of Nymphs and some top water flys. I love the way it works with biot stone fly nymphs and salmon fly nymphs. It also works great for a long body scud of any size.

Equal or better than some of the "best" name brands.

    love this hook

I use this hook for small emerger patterns, and "flymphs". I wish they came in even smaller sizes.

    Effective Hooks

Great hooks. They are just as good as the ones that cost 4 times as much.

NO difference between these and Tiemco hooks

Published by Bob Getz on 24th Feb 2014

I have labeled compartments for all my hooks and as I dropped in the hooks with the few remaining TMC hooks, the appearance is identical. Strength, sharpness, etc. are all impossible to detect any difference. The price is most helpful as I tie more than 2 dozen a day typically.

Good for extended body nymphs and attractor dry fly patterns

Published by Peripatetic Fly Fisherman on 12th Feb 2014

These hooks work well for tying longer, slender nymphs and also for attractor-style dry flies. They are sharp and strong - I can really tighten the thread onto the fly without bending the hook. They make a nice long prince nymph or long pheasant tail. A word of caution: it can be difficult to impossible to get a bead around the bend on the small sizes (18 and under).
