I love everything about this hook. I tie both dries and nymphs with it. Never has an issue even after several large browns on the upper Delaware.
Have some trout patterns to try with these excellent hooks.
I've had 4 of these hooks straighten out on me on 16"+ trout. I agree with the poster that said a heavier wire option would be nice. Not 2x heavy, more like 1x heavy so that these hooks can be used for dries and nymphs.
Then I'd be sold on these as I like the hooking performance.
Update: Hello, we are currently working on a heavier version of this hook. Sounds like that would be perfect for what you are doing. Thank you - Justin
Very good hooks. Please make them in heavier wire and smaller sizes
I don't always tie dry flies, but when I do, this is the hook I rely on. The wide gape and barbless point promote solid hookups, and I love the black nickel finish.
Great product, I am very satisfied, recommended.
Nice quality hook at a fair price. As good as most that are much more expensive. Never had a problem with any flies tied on an Allen hook.
I was looking for a barbless competition hook with a longer hook point or up-turned point similar to some of the Hanak hooks. I ordered these on a recommendation from A.J, and at first glance I like the look of the hooks. My only consideration is that I wish they were a little heavier wire. Understandably, they are a dry fly hook, and not a wet fly hook. Regardless I think they will fish well, and will have added sticking power with the slightly upturned hook point.
Reply - Justin (Allen), Thanks Geoff for the review. Yes, the D102BL is a great dry fly hook. We recently been asked to make these in a heavier wire as well. This is something that we are going to work on. Thanks again - Justin
This is one tuff sharp hook that won't dissapoint you.
