Description

For the biggest, fastest fish, the Kraken XLA is the ideal cure. The extra large arbor and repositioned cranking handle provide unparalleled retrieval speeds, while the sturdy sealed drag can put more than ample pressure on trophy-sized targets. We now offer this reel with a reversible retrieve as well, making it ideal for guides, guests, and lodges. The XLA still boasts the advantageous “U”-shaped arbor of its little brother, the Kraken, as well as the weight-saving benefits of a strongly ported design. Equally at home on a single-hander in the salt or a spey rod a couple hundred miles from it, the Kraken XLA represents a surprisingly versatile reel in a very affordable package.

Features:

  • Fully machined aluminum spool and frame
  • Multi-disc stacked carbon drag system
  • Sealed drag
  • Extra-large arbor, U-cut spool
  • Click retrieve and click drag
  • Easily converts from left to right hand retrieve

    Unreal

Published by Jeff Burr on 13th Sep 2015

I build my own rods. I decided to build myself a heavy 11 wt 1 piece Tarpon rod. I got the rod built, slapped on this reel and headed to the mosquito lagoon flats. I was so pumped at how this reel performed. It's drag is smooth as butter, the green and blue color are so awesome, and I was having people notice this combo (because of the reel) sticking off my poking platform back at the boat ramp. I will never use another reel brand the rest of my life. Can't wait for my 7 wt redfish reel order next week.

Best fly reel I've ever used

A little weighty, but smooth as silk. Best fly reel I have ever used. Superior line pick up & drag.

THe res didn't know what hit them...

Published by Adam T on 2nd Jul 2015

The first real trial for my size 3 XLA was in the marshes of Louisiana sight fishing for giant reds. These fish had the power to test the drag, and the speed to make me crank and put the line pickup speed to the test. Between them and the jacks, snook, and tarpon I catch in Tampa bay, this reel never disappoints. The handle is a little unconventional, due to it not being at the edge of the arbor, but I hardly notice that anymore. I would definitely recommend this reel.

    Unleashing the Kraken!!

Published by Timothy Matt on 7th Jun 2015

I recently purchased the Kraken XLA #4. This is easily the sweetest reel I've ever owned, used, SEEN! Flawless drag, smooth as silk!!! Why any one would ever waist money on any other product is beyond me. I actually dropped it right on some sharp and very large rocks. Not by choice of course. What happened you wonder? NOTHING! Not even a chip, or scratch. And the reel continued to operate flawlessly. Once again, Allen delivers with performance & top notch quality!!!! For way less than any other reel at its level. Sage ? Never again. My Allen gear has out lasted and out performed all my other gear( including T.F.O., Sage, and others), and keeps going. I trust that the Kraken XLA will be no different. I will be getting more of these reels in the future along with some sweet Allen rods to put them on!!! Well done again guys!!! Very well done.

    Just give it a spin.

    This reel is SICK!!!!!

Published by Brad Davidson on 17th May 2015

This is my first Allen reel, and if it tells you anything I just ordered a Kraken for my 9wt. The customer service and communication has been second to none, and I work in customer service in the fishing industry. Top to bottom, the craftsmanship of this reel is absolutely amazing. I'm using the size 5 (it's a serious big boy) for Striped Marlin, Big Dorado & Tuna. After testing the drag out with a buddy I'm pretty sure there isn't a fish that it couldn't put the wood to. Watch out Tarpon, you've met your match! Buy it, I promise you won't regret it.

    As good as it gets!

Published by John on 6th Apr 2015

Before this, I had not owned or used a reel with such a large arbor. It took me a day or two to get used to the size of the reel, and it took me only one fishing trip to absolutely fall in love with it. I mounted my Kraken XLA size 3 on one of my 8wts and took it with me to the Bahamas on a bonefish trip. The big arbor is fantastic for picking up a bunch of line quick when a bonefish makes a long run and then runs back towards the boat. The sealed drag handled the searing runs of the bones without a hiccup. This drag is seriously one of the best I've seen on a fly reel at any price. I wouldn't hesitate to put a big amberjack, shark or tarpon on this reel. Balances well on an 8wt, looks killer, and flat out performs.

    XLA 4 whips big bones

Published by Chuck Page on 3rd Apr 2015

On a trip to Mexico, we were told of a lagoon that had large bonefish and permit, So I took my 9 wt rod with the XLA 4. I hooked 4 bones 8 to 12 pounds. They ripped off 150 yard runs in seconds multiple times each. The XLA drag was flawless, and the large arbor was critical when the fish turned and came back at me. Great product and amazing price performance.

    Best buy for the money...period.

Published by Kelly Dow on 4th Mar 2015

I own several Allen reels...and I do mean SEVERAL. This has to be my favorite. I use it weekly for hunting massive cutthroat trout at Pyramid Lake in Reno. NV...I'm talking 20+lb cutty's at times. The reel handles anything you throw at it flawlessly. Pyramid is known for it's alkalinity, which can ruin our gear quickly, but the Kraken XLA stands tough. It is machined to perfection and light as a feather for the size. The drag is beautiful...like Olivia Wilde beautiful. Like I wish I could divorce my wife, marry the drag, and introduce it to my parents kind of beautiful. All-in-all, this reel is exactly what I wanted and needed. I now have a couple extra spools so I have options on line. BUY IT!

    Kracken XLA

Published by Todd Buck on 12th Feb 2015

I'll admit, I'm a bit of a gear snob but I'm here to tell you that this reel is an incredible bargain. Fit, finish, and machining are on par with the best reels out there. I've spent a lot more on other maker reels for the same level of quality. The drag is silky smooth, the styling is spectacular, and the extra large arbor allows for rapid retrieve when a fish makes a run directly at you. What more can you ask for? Try one, you won't be disappointed.
