Product Description
The Volant Rod Series is a worthy successor to our ever-popular XA series of rods. It channels the medium-fast action of the XA with some improvements to create an even more refined multi-purpose series. From small creeks to offshore saltwater, the Volant series will get the job done, and do it extremely well. The series is built around versatility and durability without sacrificing finesse and presentation. The goal for the series is presentation, power, and accuracy in perfect balance, so not only can you put the fly on target, but you can effectively fight the hooked fish too. Each model was designed to suit its ideal fisheries: the 4-weight is dialed in on small stream and stillwater, while the 12-weight is built with the power to handle whatever the saltwater flats and blue water brings up for you.

most versatile rod I've used ever. 10' 4wt
This rod is outstanding. Completely versatile in many applications. Just fished it last week and went from chucking heavy strip leaches and weighted buggers to tossing at size 20 dry fly with precision. Even used it to euro nymph as well and performed awsome. Big thumbs up to Allen for such a great rod at a killer deal.

componenets for the volant
First off the rod itself is what it says, a workhorse. Love the rod itself but the only issue I have is the size of the snake guides. For 8wt and up I would like to have slightly larger snake guides. With the larger lines (10wt & 12wt) it is difficult to clear the guides with the knots used to connect leader to fly line.

sturdy but sensitive
When I first held this rod in a 6wt w/ butt, I initially felt it was too big/stiff (more like an 8wt). I was hesitant to keep it but recently fished the Colorado river with it and ran into a few pools holding many large trout. After 2 days of fighting and landing many 6 pound plus fish, I am so glad I had this rod. Casting control was effortless and the sensitivity of the rod assisted in many hook-ups. My arm was not fatigued after 50+ fish as the backbone of the rod took on most of the fight. Paired it with an Atlas reel and I'm telling you, what a combo. Not my best fishing day, but this combo made it one of my most memorable. Total control. Thanks Allen for a affordable superior product.

12-WT Dream, fishes like a $800 rod and controls monster fish
I picked up a 12-wt Volant and paired it with my older Kraken 5. Line combo was 350M of 80-lb braided backing and a RIO Tarpon 12wt WFF line, with a sink tip. The combo was slinging 6-inch flies 70-80 ft + all week in the jungle. Loaded up the double haul like a champ. The line guides were large enough to easily pass the big knots and loops during retrieval. The only improvement I would suggest is a bigger fighting butt, and if you do a redesign on the 12-wt, consider adding the upper grip for the epic battles with 200# + tarpon that some of us like the mess with. A beefier 3rd section for lifting is also suggested. A 15-wt model would be a welcome addition before the next trip! I used this rod more towards the end of the trip than my Winston BIII 12 wt because of the better casting.

Passed the test!
I purchased the 10 wt which was matched with a Kraken Reel. As soon as I received it I put some good line in it and head out into my backyard. That's what I call the Florida Everglades! Once in Flamingo ENP I got to one of my favorite creeks and waited for the right tide. This is where the test starts, I was able to make the cast required with accuracy to a pod of rolling Tarpon. On my second presentation I had a 80 lbs Tarpon inhaled the fly. This rod and reel were able to handle the multiple acrobatics and the brute force. In the end I lost the fish his abrasive mouth managed to wear thru my bite tippet. I admit I use light bite tippets to get those weary fish to eat. But the rod delivered the fly and fought the battle passing my test with flying colors.

Master of all trades
What more could you ask for?? I was looking for a streamer rod and purchased the 7 weight. (Paired with a kraken reel) This rod has a smooth action and works great for larger more aggressive trout. What I didn't know about this rod is how versatile it is. Call it unconventional, but I use this rod to fish very light tippet with size 18s and 20s also. There is a local watershed I fish where I could use anywhere from size 1 articulated steamers all the way to 20s in the same morning. I didn't want to have to hike back to the truck or carry another setup, so one day I tried the volant 7 weight out on light tippet. I couldn't believe the amount of feel and tippet protection this rod had either. Have done this 4 outings without a break off! Great product!!

It's a keeper!
I wasn't very excited to buy a "red' rod, but thought I'd try it anyway based on the reviews. Happy to see that it isn't actually red, but more like a burnt red/orange. Paired with my black Alpha III fly reel with orange backing makes for a hot looking combo. More importantly, finally had a little less wind for a change and I got a chance to try it on salt water. Not the best time of year for fishing in West Central Florida, but I did manage a couple sea trout. Nothing that put the rod to a serious stress test, but I was able to confirm that it's fun to cast.

RED HOT ROD !
Hey it doesn't look the picture. Better. The red is more of dark cranberry red than the photo shows l plan to match it up with a Omega 5 series 11-15wt. This setup will be for my big game when l go to Florida next year to visit my sister l can try it out on some bones fish and tarpon. l had just got the Azimuth rod redeeming my points. That rod l have used, no bites yet, but the 10'-7wt. is setup for spey casting with single hand rods. So can't wait to try out my new 12wt. rod. l will find some kind of fish to go hunt down with where l live. l hear there are bonita tuna to be had off the coast of Vancouver Island. Gotta go get a guide and try my luck !
