Product Description
The Kraken reel series has been our most consistent performer for over a decade. Its fully machined and lightweight design has represented the best value in the industry for years and it just keeps getting better. The last generation saw improvements to the drag housing and the knob shapes to help with performance in saltwater and with ergonomics. Now, we've shifted the drag material to a carbon multi-disc system to improve durability and top-end drag pressure. The sealed drag is ready for any environment, while still remaining easy to reverse if necessary without any additional tools. The Kraken series still boasts a U-shaped spool for both line capacity and ease of line pick-up, while now benefiting from stronger and still super-smooth performance across the full range of target species. Whether you're targeting spooky Catskills bank-sipping trout or hefty Florida Keys tarpon, there's a Kraken reel up to the task!
Features:
- Fully Machined Aluminum Frame and Spool
- Sealed Carbon Multi-Disc Drag System

stops big bonefish
The Kraken XLA drag is smooth even when bumped up to stop big bonefish screaming off the flat toward the reef. I love the reel.

Good looks and great performance
I have two Kraken 7-9 reels and 4 spools to keep my 7,8 and 9 wt. saltwater fly rods set up with floating and sinking line. They perform flawlessly, even when pulling in big redfish against a hard outgoing tide at the river mouth. Best of all, they're lightweight for kayak fishing. I recently had a drag issue with one, but Allen's customer service took care of it promptly and effectively. And I get a lot of compliments on the color. So the Kraken is a thing of beauty and a joy to fish, which is a lot to say for a sub-$250 saltwater reel.

a better Kranken reel
Great looks and performance. The drag system is a vast improvement. Performs as well as more costly reels I have used..Ask the East End bonefish.

Dont buy this reel if your friends get jealous easily
Seriously. My reels get abused 200+ days a year and having solid build quality is my first priority. Which is why I my first impression with this reel was a bit confusing. It's like Allen took a Porsche, painted it green and sold it for the price of a Corolla. The Kraken so far has preformed just as well as most of my reels costing twice this amount. The only problem I had was that the length of backing supplied was too much. How can I complain with that though? It's like showing up to a bbq with too much beer.

kraken 8wt
Recently purchase this reel for a king salmon trip in Milwaukee. Landed numerous 10-20 pound salmon and reel performed flawlessly. Even chased some smallies with same reel and easily transitioned to lighter bugs. Enjoying my reel thus far

Can't Love the Kraken More than We Do!
We own three Krakens in various sizes for different fishing scenarios/sizes. In both freshwater and salt, the reels perform flawlessly. Both my husband and I get compliments on how well they're made whenever we're out fishing with others. We have colors Smoke, Dorado and black. All three are as sharp as can be on their rods. This reel is so damn sharp it would be a GREAT reel to do a special edition limited color....say fuchsia or autumn gold...just sayin' Thanks Allen for an amazing product and excellent customer service!

Paired it up with my seven wt. Fish mostly light salt Tackle and it fishes fantastic I’m sure I’ll be buying more of these reels in different sizes.

Beautiful Reel!
The reason I bought this reel is weight. I compared the weight of the Kraken with all the best including Hatch and Nautilus. The Kraken had the least amount of weight at 6.5 ounces. I think it is important not have a reel hinge in your grip due to reel weight. As we all know a good cast starts with a good grip. I gave the Kraken a 4 only because the clicker is very quiet. Would rather have the Alpha sound which is differently pleasing. I'm not so sure about the backing capacity. I had to peel off a ton to get the AirFlo 8wt line to fit. Peeled down to where the spool begins to "V". What ever is left would be nice to know. Fit and finish is as good or better than the rest of the best. Although, not so sure about the new design spool support inherent to most sealed drag designs. It seems there is very little surface to support the spool. I'm curios to what will happen when heavy loads are applied. Can't wait to get it down to the Keys. That will be the true test. Thanks Guys. Keep up the good work!
